Alrighty My Lovelies..

A lot has happened sinced I've last blogged. Lots of sewing, lots of baby/moma drama, lots of pyrexia! I'll be sharing my sewing adventures today. Since I don't have too much time though, it'll be mostly photos. Who doesn't like looking at photos? Not me! Lots of blocks blocks blocks these last couple of months. Ready? Here we go!

First Up, my 4x5 modern Quilt Bee blocks..

These are the ones I made and sent out. They proved to be much more difficult to make than I had originally anticipated. I need to go through my tutorial and see where I went wrong. Boo. However I do give myself an A for effort ;D!

These are the ones I got back from my amazing bee members...

Except of course the the bottom left corner, which was my practice block. Gorgeous aren't they?? I'm so excited for the next round! I clearly need to step up my game ladies.

I'm also part of the SEW.QUILT.GIVE Charity Bee, and made these April blocks for Libby..

Cute, quick and simple! Next I made these May paper-pieced blocks for Allie..

They were scary at first, but turned out to be really easy and fun to make. Hopefully I can make a couple more for her before the month is over. I really love how they turned out!

Last, but certainly not least, I made an extra block for Jocelyn (an awesome FB/Pyrex friend of mine), because I was completely unhappy with the block I made her for the 4x5 bee...

SOO much better right? Yes! ..and my practice block of course..

I hope you all enjoyed my sewing ventures .."sew" far. Hee hee. I have much more to come! Thanks for sticking with me and cheering me on! I'LL BE BACK (terminator style!)

Still Alive!

Yup it's true, I'm still here. I've been so busy these last couple of months, that I have NOT had a chance to log on for some blogging. Boo on that, right?. In any case, I knew I had to log on to say hello to you all. HELLOOO! My schedual seems to be filling up even more now, though I'll still try to blog as often as possible. I'll have a post of my projects in a few days, so be sure to check back!

One Seam Flying Geese Block Tutorial

After posting my thread in Bee Group, I put two blocks up for a vote, to see which one the girls would like...

                    Block A                     OR                     Block B

...a couple of days or so later, Block B won out. That meant I needed to draft up my block, for much easier piecing later. Well, there's nothing like the last minute. I'm not sure about everyone else, but in my world - in Moma language?, the last minute means - a spare moment! I finally managed to get it done. YAY! Now, someone out there may have already figured out an easier way of doing this, BUT, I like to live on the edge. It makes me feel fabulous (and smart). SO I'm going to show you how I made it. Ready? Let's get to work!

One Seam Flying Geese Block Tutorial

*all seams used are 1/4", making an 12.5"x12.5" unfinished block*

You'll need:

16   3"x3" background fabric blocks
2     1 5/8"x12 1/2" background fabric strips
1     1 1/2"x10 1/8" background fabric strip
2     1 1/8"x10 1/8" background fabric strips
8     3"x5 1/2" printed fabric(s) strips

First, make 8 of these --> One Seam Flying Geese blocks..

..I'll wait..   Great! Layout your blocks in any order you wish. Now we can piece our block together :).

1. Start by sewing together 4 Flying Geese, top to bottom. Repeat with the other 4. Trim to 5 1/2"x10 1/8" inch strips. *NOTE TO SELF- Make sure your not cutting into your "geese"!*

2. Next, take the 1 1/2"x10 1/8" strip, sew it wrong sides together, to the center of your flying geese strips.

(sorry, I forgot to take a photo of that step. Hopefully this helps.)

3. Grab both 1 1/8"x10 1/8" strips. Place one strip on the right side -wrong sides together - Sew. Press. Next place the second strip on the left side-wrong sides together - Sew. Press. Trim if needed.

4. Take one 1 5/8"x 12 1/2" strip, place on the Top of your Block, wrong sides together. Sew. Place the second 1 5/8"x12 1/2" strip on the Bottom of your block, wrong sides together. Sew. Press.

5. Last, square up your block to 12 1/2"x 12 1/2" if needed.

TADA, Your Done!

I'd love to see your blocks, so start posting those babies ;D
As usual, if you have any questions (or corrections), let me know. Happy Sewing!

One Seam Flying Geese Tutorial

I learned a new technique yesterday for making flying geese! Totally love this "new" method people. I already have another idea for this, but first I'm going to show you how to make this version. It's super easy, and I know your going to love it :). Alrighty, let's begin..

ONE SEAM FLYING GEESE

Cut One 3" x 5.5" Strip of your favorite printed fabric..

Cut Two 3" x 3" Squares of your background Fabric..

Grab One 3" x 3" Square and place it right side up..

Next, take your 3" x 5.5" printed strip and fold it in half. Wrong sides together, and position it on top of your 3" x 3" square..

Take your Second 3" x 3" square, and place it on top, right side down. Making sure the fold is at the TOP (facing away from you) of your stack..

Next, making sure your fold is facing away from you, sew a 1/4" seam along one side..

Now take your fabric and open one side of your stack, ironing it open.

Now the magic! Placing your finger between the printed fabric, open it up...

Finally, iron flat..

TADA! A One Seam Flying Geese Block..

Wasn't that easy??! The possibilities are truly endless here :). Here's what I did with mine..

I have some kinks to work out on the sashing and borders, otherwise I would have included a tutorial on putting this together. I'll be working on this today :).
There you have it! What are you going to do with your new One Seam Flying Geese?

Happy Sewing
